Dear Nelson Society Members,
THE BATTLE OF THE NILE ANNUAL LUNCHEON.
Saturday, 3rd August, 2019
To celebrate Lord Nelson’s great victory at The Battle of the Nile, (1-2 August 1798) The Nelson Society returns to The Palace Hotel in Buxton, Derbyshire, for this ever popular event, and this year I am delighted to inform you that we have the very entertaining, popular and highly knowledgeable Clinton Lee as our pre-lunch Speaker and the subject of his talk is “My Heroes: Lord Nelson, My Family and Friends” and I am looking forward to it very much and looking forward to meeting up with you all again.
May I remind you that if you are travelling by train, then the station is just a short walk away from the Palace Hotel, and if you are driving, then you have plenty of car parking space in the hotel grounds. Complimentary coffee/tea and water will be served from 11.15am in the Cavendish Room, before we adjourn to the beautiful Chatsworth Dining Room at midday for our lecture followed by lunch. A booking form is enclosed with The Nelson Dispatch, and you will find details of the three course meal choices which you should complete for yourself and guests (initials for each please) with numbers required for each course option.
Please note that you are required to make your own accommodation reservations direct with the hotel, quoting the very special discounted price. We are extremely fortunate with the accommodation costs as this is the peak season for hotel bookings, and it reflects the very high regard the hotel has for The Nelson Society. The bookings are subject to availability so early bookings are recommended.
For those who are not familiar with this picturesque area of Derbyshire, you may wish to extend your stay in Buxton as this wonderful spa town has superb gardens and restaurants as well as Buxton Opera House, one of the country’s finest examples of a Frank Matcham theatre just a few minutes walk from the hotel. Buxton is very close to Bakewell village where you will find Haddon Hall, the most perfect English House to survive from the Middle Ages; also Chatsworth House with its historic treasures and rare art, and its famous gardens with beautiful outdoor sculptures, the famous Chatsworth cascade and maze.
I look forward to seeing you in Buxton.
