Battle of Copenhagen Commemoration, Great Yarmouth
This year’s Copenhagen event will be held in Great Yarmouth , from where the fleet departed for the Battle of Copenhagen in 1801. We will be based at the Imperial Hotel, 13-15 North Drive , Great Yarmouth NR30 1EQ.
We have negotiated a special rate for members for this event and have reserved five single rooms and 15 double rooms for Society attendees.
Programme
Saturday 28th March All events to be based at the Imperial Hotel, Great Yarmouth
Morning: 11.00am Lecture by David Higgins, historian and author, on ‘Springboard to Victory’ examining Great Yarmouth’s role in the Napoleonic wars
12.00 noon Talk by Chris Brett on Nelson and Great Yarmouth followed by lunch at attendees arrangement
Afternoon: 2.15 pm Walking tour of Great Yarmouth, visiting the Norfolk Naval Pillar (Nelson’s Column), the site of the Jetty, where Nelson embarked and disembarked, the Wrestlers Inn where James Sharman, who served on HMS Victory at Trafalgar, was pressganged, and St Nicholas Minster where Nelson attended a service.
Evening: Dinner at the Imperial Hotel with guest speaker Nigel Cushion, a Norfolk member and Chair and Founder of ‘Nelsonspirit’
£20 per person.

Afternoon Walking Tour
3 course dinner with wine and soft drinks

Note: These rooms will be held at the above rates until the end of January, so early booking is advised.
For those not wishing to stay at the Imperial Hotel, there are number of other options in the town, including a Premier Inn on Great Yarmouth sea front.
