Introduction to the Nelson Society

The Nelson Society is a registered charity founded in Norwich in 1981 by a group of Nelson enthusiasts.

Its object is to raise public awareness of the life and times of Admiral Lord Nelson and his navy. It achieves this by supporting Nelson related projects, including the conservation of artefacts, research and publications, hosting events and meetings, and providing advice and support on historical matters to associated appropriate causes.

The Society is run by an elected Committee on a voluntary basis. The Society has established a reputation as an authority to which other organisations look for specialist knowledge.

Membership is open to anyone interested of the aims and objects of the Society. Members come from all walks of life: academics, current and retired naval personnel, sailing ship enthusiasts and collectors – all who have an interest in Nelson and his life and times are welcome to join.
