A private letter, a Hero’s Death, a conspiracy to deceive Parliament

In recent years Admiral Lord Nelson’s reputation has come under close scrutiny in light of Britain’s colonial past and slave trade history. In this book Chris Brett examines the evidence behind claims that Nelson was pro-slavery and a racist and, in doing so, reveals a plot by the West Indian planters to falsely use Nelson’s burgeoning posthumous reputation to support their cause and influence debates in parliament on the abolition of the slave trade in 1807.
